Welcome from new CEO, Katie

20 Apr 2023

Having recently joined the Nightline Association as our first CEO, I am amazed at all that this charity achieves. It is a small yet mighty power engine, working tirelessly to support students when other University services are closed.

Only this week did I read about Mind and Direct Line Insurance’s research, showing that 46% of young adults have felt low all the time, or often, in the last twelve months (Mind, 2023), and 95% of young adults have felt anxious in the last year. Nightlines are working hard to support students who are struggling with these anxious and low feelings. Collectively, we are working with Universities to support 1,500,000 students. We are one service of many, but we are the peer-to-peer service, there for students in the evening hours when other student-specific services aren’t available.

We are so grateful for all 2,500 volunteers across the Universities who give their time each night to listen by phone or instant message, and who keep this service going. We are grateful to the Universities who see the incredible value in this service. Finally, we are grateful to each of the volunteers who keep the Nightline Association going. These volunteers share and learn their IT finance advice, fundraising support, work with organisations such as the Samaritans and Helplines Partnership to ensure we’re promoting best practice, and provide training for each Nightline across the country.

We can only do this with your ongoing support though. We have launched a new strategy and are investing in research, in growth and we look forward to seeing the impact on the next generation of students.

Join us today and support the next steps for Nightline, by volunteering, donating, or by promoting us to your business.

Nightline Association

The Nightline Association was established in 2006 as an umbrella charity to support, promote and develop university Nightline Services. There are now 34 active Nightlines in the UK offering listening services to around 1,500,000 university students.

Our mission is to raise the quality, profile, availability, and accessibility of Nightline services so that every student is aware of, and has access to, confidential emotional peer support, as well as the opportunity to volunteer for a Nightline.
