"It is a challenge that not many people take on to step outside your normal activities and listen to the lives of students around you."
When I first joined Nightline I wasn't sure if I would be able to handle the responsibility of listening to someones problems, before nightline I wasn't very good at taking other peoples feelings into account and tended to blunder through a lot of delicate situations.
The training weekends really helped and I met a lot of great people from a variety of backgrounds. They helped me become a good nightliner and were always on hand if I needed advice or to talk about a shift. I made some great friends in the organisation who I know I can rely on any time despite us leaving the university setting.
One of my prouder moments in nightline was helping to train and support new members as a committee member. I learned a lot both on shift and in socials with the rest of the organisation and I have developed a lot through the diverse experiences.
Nightline is not just an alternative society to pass the time at university, it is a challenge that not many people take on to step outside your normal activities and listen to the lives of students around you. It can be tough at times but there is a huge amount of support available from your friends in the organisation. I am proud of the person I became because of Nightline and I hope that other people are willing to take up the same challenge.
